ESPNU to Broadcast #1 Thompson vs #2 Hewitt-Trussville in Nationally Ranked Contest

Nearly two years after Thompson and Hewitt-Trussville's 63-49 classic at Warrior Stadium aired on ESPN2, the Warriors and Huskies will once again step onto the national stage for a primetime matchup this Friday, Sept 18 on ESPNU with the game slated to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re blessed to have an opportunity to be featured on ESPN,” said Warriors head coach Mark Freeman. “It’s a treat for our kids and our community and we’re glad that ESPN chose to feature Thompson.”

Thompson and Hewitt-Trussville are ranked #1 and #2 in Alabama's 7A classification, but are also ranked in the top 50 nationally according to both MaxPreps and USA Today. The Warriors (#20) and Huskies also have multiple national top 100 prospects in the 2021, 2022 and 2023 classes.

“We appreciate ESPN making us a part of the ESPN High School football showcase for the second time in just three years,” said Thompson athletic director Vincent Pitts. “It’s a testament to the hard work of our players and coaches and a great highlight for our program. We are looking forward to being a part of ESPNU’s primetime broadcast Friday night!

Hewitt-Trussville leads the all-time series between the two schools 6-5 after a narrow upset of the Warriors at home last year, 35-29. Thompson had won the previous two match-ups since the Huskies joined 7A's Region 3 in 2018.

Since 2016, the Huskies and Warriors are a combined 76-19, winning three region championships in that span with Thompson making two state championship appearances and taking the state title in 2019. In what has become one of the biggest rivalries in Region 3, Friday's matchup will play a big hand in who will take the early lead in the race for the region championship.
