Thompson High School Announces 2023 Football Schedule, headlined by IMG Academy matchup.
ALABASTER, AL June 30, 2022: The Thompson Warriors, from Alabaster, Alabama will face off against the IMG Academy Ascenders from Bradenton, Florida in a highly anticipated matchup during the Fall of 2023.
The Warriors won the fourth consecutive AHSAA State Champion in 2022 and have produced national recruits Jeremiah Alexander (Alabama), Peter Woods (Clemson), Connor Harrell (North Carolina), Stanton Ramil (Michigan State), Taulia Tagovailoa (Maryland), Tre'quon Fegans (Alabama) as well as many others. They are led by Freshman quarterback Trent Seaborn who has already accumulated more than ten division one offers and Zack Sims who also has multiple division one offers, the team also boasts a strong defense, led by class of 2025 five-star defensive back Anquon Fegans and 2024 four-star defensive back Caleb Harris. The Warriors are led by ten-time state championship head coach Mark Freeman.
Freeman said “we are excited to welcome IMG to Alabaster; this will certainly be a challenging game for our program but an exciting time for our program nationally. I am excited for our community and for our program to compete against IMG and continue competing at a high level nationally.”
The Ascenders, meanwhile, have been equally impressive and were named National Champions in 2020 by USA Today. They have a roster full of national recruits and their program has been a hotbed for college recruiters. The Ascenders also have a strong defense, led by five-star 2024 defensive lineman David Stone and five-star defensive back Ellis Robinson IV committed to Georgia. IMG is led on offense by four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins JR along with several other highly touted prospects.

We are thrilled to continue enhancing our football schedule with nationally recognized programs like IMG. Last year we faced the Buford Wolves in the Freedom Bowl and hosted Lipscomb Academy at Warrior Stadium. These are exciting opportunities for our student athletes, great opportunities for our community and really great football matchups for football fans across the nation.”
This matchup promises to be a fantastic showdown between two of the top teams in the country. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 31st, at Thompson High School.
